Even automobile legends cannot get past the requirements of ISO 9001, if they want a DQS certificate: Bugatti
What they make in Molsheim-Dorlisheim in Alsace really isn’t a commonplace thing, but a breathtaking example of automotive design built with the most exacting degree of precision: The Bugatti Chiron
To simply call it a car almost borders on the insulting. To quote the manufacturer: “It’s the most powerful, fastest, most luxurious and most exclusive super sports car in the world”. 8 liters of displacement, 1500 hp, “unbelievable acceleration which only comes to an end in the twilight zone somewhere beyond the 400 km/h mark”, individually configured vehicles and its price . . . ah, what’s money anyway? However, what enhances the Chiron’s value beyond these facts: its production has now been certified according to ISO 9001:2015 by DQS.
Lead auditor Ferdinand Freund and co-auditor Christiana Rambow-Krummeck had the task, or rather the opportunity to look behind the curtain both at Bugatti Engineering GmbH as well as at Château Saint Jean in Molsheim, where the legendary Bugattis are built. In the context of this certification, the development site Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. was also up for an audit.
Customer emphasis permeates everything here. The Chiron is not produced in a production hall. No, here they speak of an “atelier”: in three assembly boxes, highly qualified mechanics each assemble one vehicle. In the departments “Exterior”, “Interior” and “Final Touch”, the vehicles receive their outer skin and their interior fittings. Wholly individual, just like their buyers – who, incidentally, are able to observe the beginning and end of the creation of their vehicle in real life. What makes a Bugatti so unique and whose wishes become reality when, is traceable at any given time: Each vehicle file meticulously reflects the complete status of all parts and all checks – each Bugatti is a truly unique specimen. Christiana Rambow-Krummeck was just as enthusiastic about the management system as she was about the Chiron: “A fascinating, unique and emotional vehicle that is a unique customer experience.”
“Form follows Performance”, is the motto of Bugatti’s designers for the Chiron. “Certificate follows Audit”, is the summary of our auditors after the eventful days at Bugatti. Center stage, unimpressed by the audit and surrounded by the team of managers and auditors: the Chiron.
